Colorado Springs serves all ages (infants in safety seats – senior drivers)
within the Pikes Peak Region. According to the Pikes Peak Area Council
of Government, the population in El Paso County (EPC) in 2000 was
516,929. As previously stated, the leading cause of injury and death
in people
1 – 34 is motor vehicle crashes.
In the school-aged
programs alone, DRIVE SMART Colorado Springs is reaching 30% of the total population
of EPC, and an additional 30% of the population in the ages 25 –
44.  The ethnic breakdown
in Colorado Springs is 80.7% white, 6.6% black, 12% Hispanic and
2.8% Asian. |
