Graduated Drivers Licensing for Teens

A snapshot of the law – to get a learner's permit, or as a new driver
you must:

-- Get a Learner's permit at 16 unless;

** Enrolled in an approved driver education class, get permit at 15.

** Completed 4 hour driver awareness class, get permit at 15 ½.

-- Permit must be held for one year prior to licensure.

-- 50 hours practice driving, 10 of which must be at night.

-- Cell phone may not be used while driving on learner's permit.

-- While under 18 only 1 passenger in the front seat and back seat is limited to the same number as seat belts available. All passengers must be in seat belts.

-- While under 18, carry no passengers under 21 until licensed for 6 months.

-- No more than one passenger under 21 in vehicle, until licensed for 1 year (exception: immediate family members)
